Frequently Asked
Questions

All answers to the questions will be posted on this page

Can you come out and fill my swimming pool?

The department does not fill residential swimming pools. If a truck were to be used to fill a swimming pool, this would mean that the truck would not be available for other emergencies, plus the truck would also need to replenish it's water supply before responding on an emergency call, possibly jeopardizing property and lives.

How come I have to shovel out the hydrant in front of my house? Isn't this the fire departments responsibility?

Excess snow can often create problems for firefighters when they need access to fire hydrants. If a hydrant isn't accessible, firefighting capbility and safety is compromised. To ensure that firefighters can get to the hydrants when they need to, residents are asked to shovel out around hydrants.

What is the ISO rating or Fire Protection Rating?

The fire protection rating for the fire department is a 4. The ISO rating is based on the number of fire hydrants and the city water system in relation to homes and structures, the amount of fire stations within the city, the response time, and others factors.
